  • As part of the training series for cohort of teachers we took the teachers (Safety Squad) for an exposure visit to various departments that work with children namely; The Meghalaya State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR), District Child Protection unit and Child Welfare Committee of East Khasi Hills District, Sardar Police Station and Adolescence friendly health Clinic at Ganesh Das Hospital.

With a purpose to learn about the about the roles and responsibilities that these departments in child protection and to also connect these teachers of various schools with these departments in availing support and services for children.

The visits were very fruitful and an eye opener for the teachers. They were happy as they were getting the exposure and great learning.
All stakeholders shared their experiences and challenges and they were glad that these teachers are now taking an extra step towards creating a safe environment for children.
The counselor at the adolescent clinic expressed the need for counseling, how teachers can identify children who are more vulnerable.

Teachers play a very vital role in each child’s life. After the exposure visit the cohort of teachers feel that all teachers should be aware about child sexual abuse and in identifying children who are in need of care and protection.

Teachers trained have now started asking these difficult questions that they would have usually shy away. They are more motivated to take initiatives in their own schools.
