  • Why is it important to teach children about their bodies, proper names of their genitals and body safety?
1.	For children to start developing a sense of body awareness.
2.	Develop a healthy positive image
3.	The language and skills to talk about their bodies
4.	To learn about boundaries to help them understand what is safe and unsafe.

There is always shame surrounding talks about our bodies and this was observed during a session with the women of Umsawriang community. Though we have had these conversations with the women, they are still shy to openly speak about it.

They do understand the need. As one of the mothers shared “Her daughter was prepared when she got her periods, reasons being her daughter had learned about her body and body changes from attending sessions with the team from Faith Foundation”.

Women shared their concerns about the safety of their children at home, community and also expressed their concern over the exposure and use of social media. They want their children both boys and girls to attend sessions on safety and they also want to learn to share the right and correct information with their children.

This month we also want to draw attention to the petition at the change.org.

  • ART should produce a reaction in people to bring about CHANGE!!

On the 28th of April 2023, our team led the campaign at St. Anthony’s College Shillong in collaboration with the Women’s Anti-Harassment Cell of the college. We had the highest number of outreaches here with 274 participants.

Employing creative means like the Immersive Art Installation and grassroots comics was what drew the attention of the students and sparked conversations and interactions to discuss the issue of child sexual abuse. We observed different reactions from Participants while they went through the exhibits. Yes!! we saw an overwhelming reaction from many while some were uncomfortable to even read the exhibits. The issue isn’t an easy topic to discuss yet we saw a huge number of male students who came forward and was keen to learn.

One on one interactions, listening and answering to questions and concerns, dispelling myths and speaking the truth to engage people will motivate them to take action!

We thank the college for the opening the doors to the organization and breaking the silence on child sexual abuse.
