Personal Safety Education Program (PSEP) is a life- skill preventive model that implement in 26 Government Schools in the State and we are the only organisation in the State that runs these programs in schools to empower and educate children to prevent the risk of Child Sexual Abuse. Hence, we think that it is a unique program because the program delivered to children based on age appropriate safety content and it also delivered to key stakeholders like parents and adult supervisors.
To strengthen the program, we organised a consultation meet with teacher’s representatives from 26 schools in collaboration with the education department. We facilitate discussion around the vulnerability factor of children. We did this activity just to have a sense of what the other problems of children that can leave them vulnerable and we find out that sexual abuse, child labour, domestic work and substance abuse with defined causes and consequences was emerged to which according to the teachers, the highest indicator of causes of vulnerable situations for children is due to lack of parental guidance, single parenthood, lack of care and love, domestic violence, alcoholic parents, improper guidance for the use of technology like internet.
Towards the end, we had a discussion on the ways to prevent and address issues with remarkable suggestions and recommendations like initiating workshop, meetings and training for teachers and School Managing Committee, designing programs and implementing child protection policy in schools.
