Dr. Balawansuk Lynrah is a PhD candidate at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Department of Geography. In 2011, she began working as a social worker for a community based organization in Chirang district, Assam. She has traveled widely in North East India and beyond, conducting research, workshops, monitoring and evaluating projects for various NGOs in the region. The work she did during this period strengthened grassroot organizations in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland.
Balawansuk also holds a master’s degree in sociology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, a master’s degree in social work from Bosco Institute, Dibrugarh University, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Mary’s College, North Eastern Hill University. Her research interests include gender studies, youth aspirations, and marginalization in North East India. She aims to reduce the gap between academia and practice through her research and involvement in social work interventions.
